Fear.
Fear. It's a pretty prevalent presence in our society. It's on the news, in our minds, and
even in the Bible.
Throughout Scripture, people are told not to be afraid. When they follow through, some pretty incredible things happen.
"And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus." (Luke 1:30-31 ESV)
"And Moses said to the people, "Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord,
which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again." (Exodus 14:13)
"When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened. But he said to them, "It is I; do not be afraid." (John 6:19-20)
Mary was told not to be afraid when an angel appeared before her and told her she would be the mother of Jesus. Moses told the Israelites not to fear their oppressors. Jesus told his disciples not to fear when they saw him walking on water. Fear could have crippled them, but instead, their trust in God led to powerful examples of faith.
Something important to notice: God never says there is nothing to fear; rather, He tells
us not to fear. God calls you to move despite the situations that cause fear and anxiety. We have a God who is greater than any fear and is sovereign over all. Which situations in your life does fear control?
Move when God tells you to move. Wait when God tells you to wait. Trust when God calls you not to be afraid. Which do you want to hold more power in your life: God or your fear?
