Moses Makes Me Laugh... and Calls Me Out

Exodus 4 makes me laugh. Genuinely. Moses argues with God about leading the people out of Egypt. He basically tries to tell God, “Um… You’ve got the wrong guy. I can’t speak in front of people.”

God reminds Moses Who made man’s mouth and Who has authority over the blind, the deaf, and the mute. One by one, He takes away Moses’ excuses and then says, “Now go. I’ll be with you and tell you what to say.”

And Moses, with nothing left to say, responds with what I think is one of the funniest lines in the Bible:

“Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.”

It’s easy to read that and think, Didn’t Moses know that God is… well, God? Why is he arguing so much? If he was told to go, why not just go?

But… don’t we do the same thing?

As Christians, we’re called to be salt and light in the world, to share the gospel and lead people to Christ (Matthew 5:13-16). But instead of doing what we're called to do, we come up with excuses that, if we’re honest, usually boil down to: “I just don’t want to.”

That’s where it feels like Moses landed. No more reasons. Just, “Can You send someone else?”

But here’s the truth: God made you on purpose and for a purpose (Ephesians 2:10). And that purpose includes pointing others to Him.

The cool part is that because we’re all created differently, that doesn’t look the same for everyone.

It might look like a photographer capturing the beauty of creation.

A singer leading others into worship.

An artist who creates in a way that reflects God’s design.

Or an athlete who leads with humility, prays for their team, and treats people with kindness on and off the field.

It doesn’t have to look like leading a nation to make a difference.

People notice the small things, how you live, how you treat others, how you respond.

And even if you feel like Moses, like you’re not “perfect” for the job, God goes before you, and He is with you.

Leading others to Him is never something you have to do alone.
